Gardaí in Co Mayo have arrested a man following a stabbing in Westport in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí in Co Mayo have arrested a man following a stabbing in Westport in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened on the South Mall at around 4.30am.

The victim was stabbed in the stomach and rushed to Mayo General Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery.

A man was arrested at the scene and is being questioned at Westport Garda Station.
