Coroner to rule on Lusk inquest adjournment bid

The Dublin City Coroner is expected to issue a ruling today on whether to proceed with the inquest into the deaths of two post office raiders at the hands of armed gardaí.

Last week, the Garda Ombudsman Commission made an 11th-hour intervention to seek an adjournment to the proceedings.

The commission said it had launched an investigation into complaints that gardaí used inappropriate lethal force during the incident.

Colm Griffin and Eric Hopkins were shot dead while trying to rob cash from Lusk Post Office in north Co Dublin in May 2005.

The complaints to the Ombudsman Commission relate to Hopkins, who was unarmed during the attempted robbery.
