Sligo man dies in drowning accident

A 24-year-old man died in a drowning accident near Sligo town earlier today.

The man got into difficulties while swimming in Lough Gill on the Holy Well Road with a group of friends at around 11.30am this morning.

His body was recovered a short time later, and was removed to Sligo General Hospital.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released, but it is understood he was from Sligo town.
