Galway city has been hit by another water scare just a month after the lifting of this year's long running 'boil water' notice.

The potentially deadly E. coli bacteria has reportedly been discovered in one of the city's largest suburban water supplies.

Residents in the Knocknacarra area have now been advised to boil all drinking water as a precautionary measure.

The latest development follows the cryptosporidium contamination that saw 90,000 people in Galway city and county having to boil their water for several months earlier this year.
