Govt gives €2m to airlift aid to refugees

Minister for Food Trevor Sargent has announced €2m in financial aid for the World Food Programme.

Minister for Food Trevor Sargent has announced €2m in financial aid for the World Food Programme.

The minister said the funds will be used to provide airlift food to refugees in remote areas of Chad.

The money is being sent in direct response to appeals from the WFP which supplies monthly food rations to Sudanese refugees who have fled to Chad to escape the violence in Darfur.

The programme feeds more than 230,000 refugees and 150,000 displaced people in the country.
