A man was arrested after a fire at a flat which left six policemen needing hospital treatment for smoke inhalation.

A man was arrested after a fire at a flat which left six policemen needing hospital treatment for smoke inhalation.

Neighbours at Seymour Hill at Dunmurry, near Belfast, had to flee when flames swept through the first floor property.

One man was found unconscious in a bedroom.

Three of the police officers taken to hospital were detained for further treatment.

Meanwhile a fire which damaged a shopping centre in Downpatrick, Co Down is believed to have been started deliberately.

One shop was badly damaged and a number of others were unable to re-open because of smoke and water damage.
