Greens criticise council over Poolbeg incinerator deal
The Green Party is criticising Dublin City Council as a stand-off develops over the controversial waste incinerator planned for the Poolbeg area.
The council says it has signed a contract for the construction and operation of the incinerator under terms guaranteeing that a certain amount of waste will be burned there annually.
The move comes just days after Green Party Minister for the Environment John Gormley strongly criticised such contracts, saying they act against efforts to reduce waste production.
Green TD Ciaran Cuffe is now accusing the council of making financial and contractual obligations before An Bord Pleanála has had an opportunity to scrutinise the incinerator plans.
