Woman dies after being hit by car in Co Galway

A woman in her 50s has died after being hit by a car on the N17 in Co Galway this morning.

The accident happened just after 9.30am at a road junction in Claregalway.

The N17 has been closed to traffic from Claregalway to Corinthians Rugby Club and traffic diversions are in place.

Diversions will be in place for the next few hours while gardaí conduct technical and forensic examinations at the scene.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old motorist has died in hospital after a crash in Co Limerick.

The man, who was travelling alone, lost control of his vehicle at 1am on the N69 at Cowpark, Kilcornan, Co Limerick.

He was removed to Limerick Regional Hospital where he died early this afternoon.
