A Catholic Church website has been hijacked by internet hackers offering a variety of sex services.

The Church realised with horror this week that an old diocesan website had been taken over and was redirecting users to illicit websites.

The Diocese of Cloyne says it was appalled to learn that its site had been hijacked and was now offering links to sex websites.

Unsuspecting users found they were being offered a range of raunchy services and access to dating sites.

The Bishop of Cloyne, Dr John Magee, has ordered all links to be removed from the site immediately.
