Study finds suicide rate may be higher than accepted

A new study has reportedly found that Ireland's suicide rate may be significantly higher than previously accepted.

Reports this morning say the study, which is due to be unveiled at a conference next week, concludes that around 600 people take their lives in Ireland every year.

The currently accepted figure is around 500.

The discrepancy arises because deaths classified as "undetermined" during inquests are not included in Ireland's suicide figures.
