USI issues advice to new college students

Students leaving home to start college this September are being advised to secure a place to live as soon as possible.

The Union of Students in Ireland has named four priorities for Leaving Certificate students facing into the last four weeks of the summer break.

Top of the list is finding alternative accommodation, while students looking to apply for a grant are being reminded that the deadline is Friday August 31.

College goers are also being advised to shop around when opening a student bank account to make sure they get the best possible deal.

USI President Richard Morrisroe says the search for accommodation should start now.
