Gardaí in Drogheda are holding a 17-year-old youth this morning in connection with a serious stabbing in Co Meath last night.

A man is undergoing emergency surgery today after being stabbed in the head in the village of Duleek.

An ambulance crew found the victim with a knife embedded in his skull after being called to Main Street at around 10.30pm.

He was taken to the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda before being transferred to Beaumont in Dublin, where his condition is described as serious.
