Two people have been treated in hospital after a shooting in Limerick in the early hours of this morning.

A number of shots, from a shotgun, were fired at a house at Georgian Villas on the Old Cork Road at about 1.10am.

A woman who was in the house at the time received a minor leg injury and was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital.

A man who was also in the house was taken to hospital suffering from shock.

Gardai said that two men dressed in black and wearing balaclavas were seen running from the scene after the incident.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out this morning and investigations are ongoing.
