Scrap means test, say carers' group
Groups representing the disabled are issued a renewed call for the scrapping of means testing for the Carers' Allowance.
The pressure group People with Disabilities in Ireland is launching a new initiative encouraging carers to get involved in lobbying for change.
It says the current means test is too restrictive and results in carers on relatively low incomes becoming ineligible for support.
This, it says, has led to some people being forced to give up caring to the detriment of people with disabilities, as well as the State.
