Prison officers balloted over safety issues

An emergency meeting of the Prison Officers’ Association (POA) will be held today after members balloted for industrial action over safety and security concerns at Cloverhill Prison.

An emergency meeting of the Prison Officers’ Association (POA) will be held today after members balloted for industrial action over safety and security concerns at Cloverhill Prison.

Deputy General Secretary Eugene Dennehy said the meeting will involve the group’s National Executive Council.

“There are serious safety issues for our staff at Cloverhill Prison, which are not being seriously addressed by local management,” he said.

“Our members have balloted for industrial action and we will discuss this ballot at our meeting,” he said.
