Cork bodies confirmed as local mother and son
Gardaí in north Cork have confirmed that the bodies recovered from a river in Co Cork this morning are those of a local woman and her young son.
The bodies of a 29-year-old woman and her eight-month-old baby boy were recovered from the river Araglin near Kilworth at Glensesken Woods at around 11.30am.
The two were last seen by family at 9.30am. Two hours later, a member of the public alerted the emergency services and their bodies were discovered.
Both mother and son remain at the scene awaiting the arrival of pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster.
A post mortem examination is expected to take place later this afternoon at Cork University Hospital.
It is the second tragedy to hit the area in recent days. Last Thursday, the body of a 14-year-old schoolboy was recovered from the River Blackwater in Fermoy close to where he had gone swimming with friends.
