Murder inquiry launched after death of assault victim
Gardaí in Dublin have formally launched a murder inquiry following the death of a man who was assaulted in the city earlier this year.
Thirty-seven-year-old Anthony Byrne, from the Drimnagh area, was attacked by a group of men at Mercer Street Upper on January 18.
He had just left the Mercer Street flats complex and was attacked shortly before midnight.
Mr Byrne died at St James's Hospital on Monday.
A number of people have already been arrested in connection with the case and a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
