The Spanish authorities have detained a boat in connection with the massive cocaine seizure off Cork's west coast earlier this week.

The vessel - thought to be a catamaran - is understood to have been intercepted at the request of gardaí investigating the discovery of 1.5 tonnes of the drug in the sea off Mizen Head.

Two men were arrested and the boat was escorted to the port of La Coruna

Four men also remain in custody in Co Cork this morning in connection with Monday morning's massive seizure, which could have a street value of up to €300m.

Sixty-one bales of cocaine were recovered from the sea after the dinghy being used to bring it ashore capsized in poor weather conditions.
