Taoiseach 'misled' public over drink/drugs testing: FG

Fine Gael TD for Donegal North-East Joe McHugh is accusing the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern of misleading the public over plans to introduce drink and drugs tests at the scene of accidents.

Deputy McHugh said he has a letter in which Mr Ahern promised in writing before the election that such a procedure would be introduced.

According to Mr McHugh, such proposals were ruled out in the Dail yesterday by Transport Minister Noel Dempsey.

The Tanaiste Brian Cowen told the House today that he was unaware of such plans.
