The Government has blocked an opposition attempt to cut short the Dáil's summer break by two weeks.

The Government has blocked an opposition attempt to cut short the Dáil's summer break by two weeks.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny proposed this morning that the House reconvene on September 11 so Oireachtas committees can get down to work.

However, the Government rejected the move, meaning TDs will have an 11-week break between today and September 26.
