New Dublin Metro route to be unveiled

The preferred route for Dublin’s Metro West will be unveiled later today.

The line is expected to run around 28 miles from Tallaght, moving through Clondalkin, Liffey Valley and Blanchardstown linking with Metro North south of Dublin Airport.

The project is planned as part of Transport 21, the Government’s multi-billion euro investment programme, and follows the construction of the Luas red and green lines.

Details of the route will be announced by Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey and Frank Allen, chief executive of the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA), which carried out a full consultation process and a feasibility study.

Meanwhile, Metro North, which is scheduled for completion in 2012, will operate from St Stephen’s Green, via Dublin Airport, to the north of Swords using underground, surface and elevated tracks.
