Two overnight deaths after road accidents

One man has died after a two-car crash in Tallaght in Dublin.

The incident happened on the Belgard Road at 12.20am last night.

The driver of one of the cars was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Meanwhile, an elderly man lost his battle for life at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda last night after being struck by a lorry in Co Monaghan earlier in the afternoon.

The pedestrian who was in his 80s was hit by the truck on Main Street Emyvale at around 4.30pm.

The man was pronounced dead shortly after 9pm.
