ICI welcomes possible Junior Minister for Immigration

The Immigrant Council of Ireland is welcoming the possibility that the Taoiseach may appoint a Junior Minister for Immigration and Integration.

Bertie Ahern said during the weekend that he was considering creating the new position when he announces his choices as the various ministers of state in his Government.

The Immigrant Council says such a move would recognise that immigration is one of the biggest issues facing Ireland.

It wants any junior minister to be given a place at the cabinet table like the Junior Minister for Children had in the last administration.
