Man taken captive at gunpoint

A man was taken captive in his own home by gunpoint in a failed robbery bid, gardaí said today.

The man, 29, was taken from his home in Gateway Mews in Ballymun, Dublin, yesterday morning, and was held captive for most of the day as part of an unsuccessful operation to steal money from a security van.

He was released unharmed yesterday evening in the Dunshoughly area of Finglas.

Detectives in Ballymun have asked anyone who was in Gateway Mews between 8am and 9am or in the Dunshoughly/St Margaret's area of Finglas between 5pm and 7pm to contact them if they noticed anything suspicious.
