Two Scottish tourists attacked and robbed in Co Louth

Police in the North have arrested two men in connection with the theft of a camper van in Co Louth overnight.

The vehicle was taken from a middle-aged Scottish couple who had only just arrived in the area on holidays during the weekend.

The couple had parked their camper van for the night at Carrickarnon, on the Dundalk to Newry Road, when the incident occurred.

They were woken at around 4am this morning when a three-man gang armed with hatchets broke in and assaulted them before stealing the vehicle.

Both suffered head injuries and were taken to the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment.

The camper van was later found burned out a number of miles away in Meigh, Co Armagh.
