Labour leadership meets as coalition talks continue

The Labour Party's national executive is meeting today as efforts continue behind the scenes to form a new coalition government.

The meeting will focus on the party's unimpressive election performance and its possible coalition options.

Labour says it will be sticking by its alliance with Fine Gael, even though Enda Kenny is facing an uphill task to secure the full support he needs to become Taoiseach.

Fianna Fáil are in pole position to lead the next government, but it became clear yesterday that the PDs will basically hold the balance of power.

They have already been courted by both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, but have yet to even sit down and discuss the options.
