Baggage handlers row at Dublin Airport resolved

A row over the relocation of domestic and UK Aer Lingus flights at Dublin airport has been resolved.

Baggage handlers - who are members of SIPTU - have accepted assurances from the airline that health and safety issues in a new arrivals and departures section are being addressed.

Workers faced suspension after objecting to air and noise pollution in the newly-created Area 14, which it is also intended to facilitate the airline's long haul traffic.

Noel Maguire from SIPTU says large pay rises and promotions were not needed in the end.

Speaking today Mr Maguire said: "What we were looking for when we had no answers to this situation was some sort of resolution.

"We entertained a number of ideas - to which we got no public response - the only response we got until that point was 'do it or else'."

He added: "In the meantime we've been able to get some commitments from the company and we have a resolution."
