The first-ever transatlantic services from Knock Airport in Co Mayo are getting underway this week.

The first flight took off for JFK Airport in New York yesterday, with US Ambassador Tom Foley among the passengers on the return leg to Knock this morning.

The service is being operated by the Scottish low-cost airline Flyglobespan, which will also begin flights between Knock and Boston on Wednesday.

Ticket prices start at €209 for a one-way trip.
