Greens predict election breakthrough with rural voters

The Green Party is predicting that it will enjoy a breakthrough with rural voters at the upcoming General Election.

Councillor Mary White said today that the Greens were supportive of farming and rural development and wanted to ensure that farmers and rural communities could thrive.

Ms White is aiming to be the first successful female candidate in the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency and the Green's first rural TD.

Meanwhile, the Greens promised today that they would install a LUAS system in Cork if elected to power, as well as investing an extra €1bn in the local schools budget and building a new A&E unit in the north of the city.

The party is also due to outline its priorities for Dublin later today.
