An Irish man has been charged in absentia for his alleged role in an Israeli spy operation in Egypt.

The man, who has not been named, is suspected of involvement in the sale of information relating to Egypt's nuclear programme.

Yesterday, a 35-year-old engineer at Egypt's Atomic Energy Agency was charged with spying for Israel as part of the case.

The Irish man and a Japanese man were also charged in absentia for their alleged role in the espionage, but no further information about their identities has been disclosed.
