Two in hospital after Galway petrol bomb attack

Two men are recovering in hospital today after a suspected petrol bomb attack on a house in Galway city.

Firefighters were called to an address on the Ballinfoyle estate, off Headford Road, shortly before 11pm last night.

Fire officers said three men, in their late 40s, were in the terraced house when the window was smashed and something thrown through it.

The device set fire to a couch, causing extensive heat, smoke and fire damage to the living room.

The men tackled the blaze, controlling it until the fire brigade arrived.

Two were taken to University College Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Gardaí, who believe the device was a petrol bomb, are investigating the incident.

The scene was preserved and a technical examination of the property was taking place later today.
