Maskey accuses DPP of failing to prosecute police officers

Sinn Féin has criticised what it regards as the repeated failure of the prosecution service to take action against police officers criticised in official reports.

Sinn Féin's newly-appointed policing spokesman, Alec Maskey says that prosecutions of police officers were possible after two recent reports from the Police Ombudsman and following the Stevens inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane.

However, no criminal charges were recommended by the prosecution service.

Mr Maskey also said that he believes the DPP has a policy of not prosecuting members of the security forces and this is unacceptable to nationalists.
