Two men charged following mortar find

Two men were charged today with conspiring to murder members of the security forces in the North.

The move followed the discovery of a live mortar bomb in Co Armagh last week.

The pair, aged 22 and 23, were also charged with possession of an improvised explosive device and possession of articles of use to terrorists.

They are expected to appear at the Magistrates' Court in Craigavon later, a police spokeswoman said.

The men were arrested in Lurgan yesterday by detectives probing the discovery of the mortar and a firing tube on April 5.

They had been questioned overnight at the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Serious Crime Suite in Antrim.

The device was found near the Cornakinniger Road, close to where the main Belfast-Dublin railway line passes through the town.
