Youth group slams link between Govt and alcohol industry

A youth organisation has today hit out at proposals that the alcohol industry represent Ireland at a World Health Organisation review on alcohol policy.

The proposal was mooted by industry representatives at a meeting with the Minister for Health in November and was uncovered in a Freedom of Information request made by Youth Work Ireland.

The group says the idea is entirely inappropriate and illustrates the close relationship between the drinks industry and the Government.

It is now calling on the government to begin distancing itself from the industry.
