80 staff to lose jobs at Galway meat plant

There is bad news on the jobs front for Galway, with news that Duffy's meat processing plant in Gort is to be sold.

A spokesperson for the family-run firm which currently employs 80 staff says there will be significant job losses when the plant is sold to the North South Pig Company.

It is understood the business was badly affected by a major fire in 2004.

Duffy's plant was set up in 1958, and was one of the first companies in Gort to employ a large number of Brazilian workers.
