Irish-born drugs baron jailed for 30 years in Britain

An Irish-born drugs baron has been jailed for 30 years in Britain for running one of the world's biggest-ever drug smuggling rings.

Sixty-year-old Brian Brendan Wright ran a multi-million euro cocaine smuggling operating between Colombia and the UK.

He oversaw shipments worth hundreds of millions of euro in the late 1990s.

Yesterday, Wright was convicted of conspiracy to supply drugs and conspiracy to evade prohibition on the importation of a controlled drug.
