Police officer injured in Belfast attack
A police officer was injured after a mob attacked emergency crews responding to a fire in Belfast early today.
Fire fighters and police were called to a suspicious blaze at a derelict house on the Springfield Road in the west of the city early this morning.
As the crews arrived at the scene they came under attack from missiles including bottles and bricks.
One male police officer suffered a cut to the eye and a slight injury to his hand during the disturbance.
A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokeswoman said six of their vehicles were also damaged during the onslaught.
An investigation has been launched.
