The Labour Court has upheld a union case against a government compensation scheme for psychiatric nurses assaulted in the workplace.

The Labour Court has upheld a union case against a government compensation scheme for psychiatric nurses assaulted in the workplace.

Under the government initiative introduced in January, nurses were only entitled to redress for physical injury.

However, the Labour Court ruled today that they should also be compensated for mental trauma.

The recommendation covers nurses who have already been psychologically hurt and are waiting assessment.
