Man dies in Fermanagh house fire

A man died following a house fire in the early hours of today.

His body was discovered in the smoke-filled living room of a bungalow at Camphill Park, Newtownbutler, in Co Fermanagh.

The alarm was raised by a neighbour who managed to help the owner of the house to safety but they were unable to rescue the other man because of dense, billowing smoke.

Robbie Bryson, of Northern Fire and Rescue Service, said the blaze was started accidentally but they were still investigating the cause.

“The fire was well alight when we arrived, with most of the smoke in the living room,” he said.

“When the smoke had cleared, we discovered the body.”

Ambulances were called from Lisnaskea and Enniskillen and it took around 10 minutes to bring the fire under control.
