Date set for RTÉ ram raid accused's trial

A 52-year-old Dublin man charged over a ram raid attack on the RTÉ studios in Donnybrook is to stand trial at the end of April.

Self-styled inventor Paul Stokes is accused of driving a car at the revolving door of the main television building on December 2 last year.

Dozens of audience members from the Late, Late Show were in the foyer at the time.

Mr Stokes is charged with causing criminal damage and reckless endangerment.

The trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has been set for April 30 and is expected to last three or four days.

Mr Stokes, from Monkstown, Co Dublin is also charged with harassing Late, Late Show host Pat Kenny.

He confronted the shocked presenter on set last November.

Mr Stokes has criticised the state and also accused state agencies, including RTÉ, of ignoring his invention which he claims will prevent road accidents.

A trial date for the harassment charge has been set for January 16, 2008.

He was remanded in custody.
