Ahern defends Govt stance on abuse compensation claims

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has defended the Government's refusal to accept legal responsibility for the abuse of children in Irish schools.

Last week, a TV documentary revealed that the State was contesting a number of sex abuse compensation claims on the basis that the responsibility for the abuse lay with schools' boards of management.
