String of road crashes cause traffic chaos in Co Kildare

A string of car crashes have caused major traffic disruption on the M7 motorway in Kildare this morning.

AA Roadwatch says the northbound section of the road is blocked and long tailbacks are being experienced on both the M7 and the M9.

At least 20 cars have been involved in collisions during heavy fog in the area, with the most serious incidents taking place at Ballymena between Kildare and Newbridge and at the intersection between the M7 and M9.

The gardaí say there have been fatalities, but no further details have been disclosed.

The AA is advising motorists in the area to divert off the M7 at Monasterevin, Kildare or Newbridge and to use their hazard lights at all times.

They are also being asked to keep the hard shoulder clear for the emergency services.
