The Tánaiste and Minister for Justice Michael McDowell has rejected criticism of the Government's decision to defend itself against compensation claims from the victims of child sex abuse.

The criticism follows a TV documentary last week revealing that the Department of Health is defending itself in compensation cases on the grounds that it is not responsible for the treatment of children in schools.
