Wexford man pleads guilty to possession of explosives

A Co Wexford man pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin today to possession of explosives, firearms and ammunition offences.

Jackie Bates (aged 56), of Jacketstown House, Jacketstown, Drinagh, Co Wexford admitted a total of six charges.

He pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of an improvised explosive device and 160 rounds of assorted ammunition at Moortown, Ballycogley, Co Wexford on March 1st last year.

Bates also admitted the unlawful possession of assorted ammunition at his home and having two firearms and ammunition without a firearms certificate at his home on the same date.

The court remanded Bates on continuing bail for sentence at a later date.
