One of the men who loaned money to Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in the 1990s has reportedly been given a key election post in Mr Ahern's constituency.

Paddy Reilly, who became known as 'Paddy the Plasterer', was one of several wealthy businessmen who between them gave €50,000 to Mr Ahern when he was experiencing financial difficulties during his marriage break-up.

The revelations sparked a major political controversy last year.

Reports this morning say Mr Reilly has now been appointed to organise the Taoiseach's constituency team in Dublin Central for the upcoming election.
