Garda raids recover gems and cash

Garda raids in Co Tipperary have led to the discovery of a six-figure cash sum and jewellery stashed in open ground, it was revealed last night.

Further searches are expected in the coming days after the find yesterday at land in Ballyporeen.

No arrests have been made in the swoop co-ordinated by officers in Cahir as part of Operation Anvil.

The searches are linked to a number of recent burglaries in the South Tipperary and North Cork areas.

Officers based in Cork and detectives in Dublin are also involved in the investigation.

Operation Anvil was launched in May 2005 to target gun crime in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.
