Fireworks to light up St Patrick's events

Thousands of Irish eyes will light up tonight at a glittering firework display over Dublin’s Docklands.

As the clean-up operation continued after the St Patrick’s Day celebrations, visitors in the capital were bracing themselves for another day of festivities.

More than 200,000 people are expected in the city to watch the giant illuminated creatures and spectacular effects light up the River Liffey.

The carnival atmosphere should be in full swing by 6.30pm with pre-show entertainment, and the display will take place at 7.30pm.

Skyfest is the biggest firework and music spectacle to be held in the heart of the city and will mark the 20th anniversary of the National Lottery.

The event is also one of the major highlights of the St Patrick’s Festival, which has spanned five days and nights.

Around 650,000 people yesterday lined the street of Dublin to celebrate the national holiday and catch a glimpse of the 3,000 performers from all over the world who took part in the parade.

The capital hosted one of the biggest street parties in the world as the main thoroughfare was transformed into a multicultural festival of colour, music and dance.
