Garda who died after giving birth in Drogheda to be buried today

The garda sergeant who died in Drogheda on Friday after giving birth to twins will be laid to rest today.

34-year-old Tania Corcoran was admitted to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital on Thursday, and underwent an emergency caesarean section.

One of her baby boys died shortly after birth, and the other remains in a critical condition in hospital in Dublin.

Tania lost her fight for life in the early hours of Friday morning, just hours after giving birth.

She will be laid to rest after 12.30pm Mass at Termonfeckin near Drogheda today.

The Health Service Executive is to carry out an investigation into the death of the Mayo Garda Sergeant, and her newborn baby boy.

Death during child birth is extremely rare in Ireland - with just 16 women dying during labour from 1997 to 2004.
