Irish woman suspected of abandoning baby in Australia

Australian police are reportedly searching for an Irish woman who abandoned her baby in a public toilet in Queensland.

Reports this morning said the baby boy, aged between two and four weeks, was found wrapped in a towel in a toilet at the Surfers Paradise tourist resort on Monday morning.

The police released CCTV images of a woman leaving the scene and reportedly received calls from members of the public identifying her as Irish.

They also believe that she subsequently boarded a flight to Ireland.

This morning's reports say investigators are trying to make contact with the woman through her friends in Australia, but may seek help from gardaí if this is unsuccessful.
