The Progressive Democrats have hit out at their coalition partners, following news that Cork Airport is to be saddled with a €100m debt.

Dublin Airport Authority agreed to pay the debt during the break of Aer Rianta, but have now refused to do so.

PD Senator for Cork John Minihan has blamed the Minister for Transport for reneging on the Government's commitment.

He says the airport cannot afford to pay this debt:

Senator Minihan said: "They would probably be able to survive but it would just be a token airport, it wouldn't be a viable, competitive airport which is what we need in the Cork region."
